We have been making great progress on the construction of Barr River Hydroscheme over the past few months. The pictures below show one of the intakes at Barr River, the constructed powerhouse and a pipe bridge responsible for transporting the water between the intake and powerhouse.
A large obstacle that our team working on Corrour Estate came up against last week! The boulder was dug up using our 20 tonne Komatsu to allow the concrete structure (visible behind) that we have constructed to be placed into the ground.
A few pictures of the now completed bridgeworks that we have been busy working on over the past month. We installed the wooden bridge before fixing up the traditional masonry bridge and pouring a reinforced concrete slab to help strengthen it. The bridge was only previously able to carry 10 tonne whilst now it has been strengthened to carry up to 44 tonne. It was a busy day out for Calum on Friday as he collected our new demountable concrete mixer from McPhee Mixers. The new mixer enables us to carry up to 6 cubic metres of concrete at a time which will help us get more out of the concrete batching plant we have recently invested in.
An update on the construction of the buried concrete transformer compound at Corrour that we began in March. We are currently fabricating the concrete walls of the compound, which will be carefully landscaped after construction is complete to prevent spoiling the surrounding landscape.
A few pictures of some bridge works we have been completing over the past week. The job requires us to prepare and pour a reinforced concrete slab to help strengthen a traditional masonry bridge.
An update of the monoblock roads, pavements and parking we have been busy laying at phase one of Dunbeg Housing Development for MacLeod Construction Ltd. Phase one is almost complete with handovers due to take place over the next couple of weeks.
The first picture below shows the near completion of phase 3 of our project at Applecross for the Scottish Salmon Company. This has involved the construction of a purification tank for the breeding of salmon parr. Following that are images of phase 4, the latest project that we have started at Kishorn Port. The scope of works involve preparing the site by breaking up and recycling the existing concrete slabs and capping the entire site using imported hard rock, before finally installing all large diameter underground pipework associated with the project. Phase 4 at Applecross will be the first super smolt-hatchery in the UK and is being developed by Nofitech for The Scottish Salmon Company. A bit of a wet day at Corrour yesterday. We have been on site here for almost 8 years and are currently working on a number of jobs across the estate. The pictures show the start of the construction of a buried concrete transformer compound where the compound is to be buried to to prevent it from spoiling the surrounding landscape.
