The 31st of July marked a new era for the company, as Chris Stewart and Lilian Duncan, longstanding members of the team, took over the ownership and running of the company.
Chris and Lilian have over 35 years of combined experience working with the company, know the running of the business, and how it works. We are delighted that they will be taking it forward and wish them all of the success in doing this.
It has been an incredible journey, and we have been lucky to have been part of some great projects, and met and worked with some amazing people along the way.
We would like to thank all of our past and present employees, customers and suppliers, for their hard work, custom and support over the years, and hope that you will continue to support the business as it moves forward.

]]><![CDATA[Road Widening Project]]>Tue, 04 Jul 2023 11:50:09 GMThttp://www.damacdonald.co.uk/news/road-widening-projectBelow are some photos of a road widening project we completed for Argyll and Bute Council at the beginning of the year, with the aim of improving the sight line of the road. 

We achieved this by removing mature trees and vegetation, allowing us to access a protruding rock face, which we removed using a 30 tonne excavator and rock breaker. Following this, we installed new drainage and realigned the road to make it straighter for road users, before laying a regulating layer of tarmac. All rock materials removed during the project have been recycled for future use, which is great news!

As an Achilles UVDB registered supplier, this is an annual procedure which audits our Health and Safety, Environmental, Quality, and Corporate Social Responsibility management procedures which we strive to maintain to a high standard.
We would like to give special recognition to our HSEQ manager Chris Stewart for all of his hard work in achieving such excellent scores.

Here is an example of a short term project that we have been working on: the foundations and floor for an agricultural shed.
To complete the works, we excavated the ground and poured concrete foundations, before finishing off by pouring a smooth finished concrete floor ready for the shed.

This has included replacing an existing culvert, the construction of a new bridge, and the realignment of an existing road.

]]><![CDATA[Dam Construction at Hawkshill Hydro]]>Wed, 05 Apr 2023 13:15:33 GMThttp://www.damacdonald.co.uk/news/dam-construction-at-hawkshill-hydroThe photos below show an insight into the work that we have been completing at Halkshill Hydro on the outskirts of Largs. We have constructed two dams on the Greeto and Gogo waters to create storage. The creation of storage permits the gradual release of water, which then facilitates greater generation of power. Some construction information on the two dams:
Greeto Dam
A 10m high, 35m wide reinforced concrete dam that provides 8 hours of remote storage for the run-of-river hydro scheme that is below. The construction took around 6 months. 

Gogo Dam
A 5.5m high, 50m wide reinforced concrete dam that provides 4 hours of remote storage for the below run-of-river hydro scheme. The construction time of this dam was slightly less, taking around 5 months. The left bank wingwall was completed by using a earthfill embankment with a sheet pile core. 

For both dams, a formwork system from Ishebeck Titan was used to create the concrete spillway and walls.

We are almost finished on site now, some great work up here by the guys.
